Diet after gallbladder surgery

A small but important organ of the digestive system, the gallbladder, sometimes forms stones. In serious cases, its removal, abdominal surgery is required. After cholecystectomy (this is the name of this surgical manipulation), a person no longer has a capacity for the accumulation of bile, and there should be a lot of it in the biliary tract, otherwise it will stagnate.

A diet after gallbladder surgery will help the patient to maintain good health. It helps to avoid complications and return a person to a full life.

  1. Reduce your salt intake.
  2. Limit your intake of fats (lard, brisket, roast lamb). Such food is hard to process in the stomach and puts a lot of stress on the liver.
  3. Drink plenty of water and juices. Herbal teas, fruit and vegetable fresh juice are useful: cabbage, carrot-apple, pumpkin, carrot-celery. Carbonated water, beetroot and diluted factory juices are contraindicated.
  4. Drink mineral water only with the permission of the doctor. After six months after cholecystectomy, and if your doctor allows you to use them in your diet, start drinking mineral water or medicinal herbal teas.
  5. Take polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega 3).
  6. Alcoholic and low-alcohol drinks after gallbladder surgery must be completely excluded forever.
  7. Minimize your intake of foods high in cholesterol. The absence of a gallbladder does not exclude the appearance of stones that are formed from cholesterol.
  8. Spicy and smoked foods are taboo (red and black peppers, bitter spices, vinegar).
  9. Change the way you prepare meals. To protect yourself from the re-formation of gallstones after surgery, boil, bake, steam food.
  10. Eat small. Divide the food intake into 5-8 times a day. Drink plenty of water during meals and eat small meals. With frequent secretion of bile, stagnation is the least likely.
  11. Well-fed people whose weight does not correspond to the norm are recommended to eat food with a minimum of carbohydrates.
  12. The diet after gallbladder surgery should be balanced, with enough minerals and vitamins.
